About St. Anne's

Nestled on the breathtaking Bull Island — a UNESCO-designated nature reserve — St. Anne’s Golf Club offers a unique coastal golfing experience just minutes from Dublin City.

Established in 1921 as a modest 9-hole course, we’ve grown into one of Ireland’s premier 18-hole links courses, proudly achieving that milestone in 1989.

From our humble beginnings and original clubhouse in 1925, St. Anne’s has evolved with vision and pride. Since 2003, our members and guests have enjoyed one of the most impressive clubhouses in the country — complete with state-of-the-art facilities and sweeping views across Dublin Bay.

Captain's Welcome

It’s a true honour to serve as Captains of St. Anne’s Links Golf Club for 2025. We’re deeply grateful for the kind words and support from our fellow members, and we extend a very warm welcome to everyone joining us this year — members, guests, and visitors alike.

Since 1921, St. Anne’s has proudly stood as one of Ireland’s premier links golf destinations. Set against the dramatic backdrop of Bull Island — a UNESCO wildlife sanctuary just five miles from Dublin city — our championship course offers something truly special: authentic links golf in one of the country’s most breathtaking natural landscapes.

With only 53 links courses in Ireland, St. Anne’s is a rare find. And it’s more than just the golf. Renowned for our hospitality, the club is a place where camaraderie, great conversation, and warm welcomes are part of the experience — whether you're on the fairways or relaxing in our modern clubhouse.

Our 18-hole course is in excellent condition, offering a fair yet challenging test for golfers of all levels. After your round, soak in the panoramic views of Dublin Bay from our award-winning clubhouse — where great food, good company, and a relaxed atmosphere await.

We look forward to sharing the year ahead with you — on the course, in the clubhouse, and as part of the vibrant St. Anne’s community.

Born into a proud golfing family in Lahinch, Co. Clare, Paddy carried the spirit of the West with him wherever he went. As someone once said of him:
“The boy may have left Clare, but Clare never left the boy.”

Paddy passed away in 2001, but his legacy lives on — in the stories, the silverware, and the hearts of those who knew him. He remains a cherished part of St. Anne’s history, and is fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of calling him a friend.

St. Anne's Golf Club – A Proud Legacy on Dublin's Iconic Island

Club History

Nestled on the UNESCO-designated North Bull Island Biosphere, just 4 miles from Dublin city centre, St. Anne's Golf Club is steeped in history, nature, and tradition.

19th CENTURY

A Unique Setting

North Bull Island was formed in the 19th century through engineering works on Dublin Bay. Today, it stands as the only biosphere located entirely within a capital city, making St. Anne's one of the most extraordinary golf experiences in the world.

Humble Beginnings

Golf arrived on the island in 1889 with the establishment of the Royal Dublin Golf Club. In 1921, inspired by their love for the game, three friends — Marmaduke Devitt, Tussy Murray, and Dudley Stuart — created a modest 9-hole layout. After securing permission from Lady Ardilaun of the nearby St. Anne's Estate, they named the new club in her honour.

From Grassroots to Greatness

The original clubhouse was a corrugated pavilion, and early transport meant bikes and boots were the norm. Despite challenges — including high tides and isolated conditions — the club thrived, thanks to the spirit of its members and the skill of greenkeeper Michael Collins, who built championship-standard greens from “blood and soot."

The 1960s saw the building of a causeway and a new clubhouse. In 1989, after years of negotiation and land reclamation, St. Anne's proudly opened its 18-hole links, marking a significant milestone in its evolution.

Champions Made Here

The 1990s brought competitive success, including an All-Ireland title in 1994 and a remarkable triple crown win in 1995. These achievements spurred another era of ambition, leading to a complete redesign of the course and the opening of a state-of-the-art clubhouse in 2003, offering panoramic views across Dublin Bay.

A Club Like No Other

Of the 40,000 golf courses worldwide, only 150 are true links, and just 44 of those are in Ireland. St. Anne's is one of only two located on protected biosphere land, shared with our neighbours at the Royal Dublin Golf Club. It's a rare privilege to play on terrain that balances world-class golf with environmental stewardship.

St. Anne's is more than a club — it's a community, a sanctuary, and a proud chapter in Irish golf history
